The drying time of powder coating depends on two core stages: curing time and cooling time, with temperature being the key determinant.
Typically, powder-coated items are baked at 180–200°C. Small, thin workpieces take 10–15 minutes to cure fully in the oven. Larger, thicker pieces need 20–30 minutes to ensure the powder melts, flows, and hardens uniformly. After baking, the cooling process takes another 30–60 minutes at room temperature. Rushing this step risks damaging the coating’s smooth finish.
In total, most powder coating jobs take 1–2 hours from baking to full dryness. Factors like part size, oven efficiency, and coating thickness can slightly extend or shorten this window. Unlike liquid paint, powder coating has no solvents to evaporate—curing relies on heat-induced chemical bonding for a durable, scratch-resistant result.
